tide slides are neat

They are a new twist on an old idea. but my concern is how they attach to the pile and how strong they would be in a blow. ' I have seen lots installed it the last couple years and they seem to be happy with them. The nice part as you can pretty much set you lines and not worry about normal tide fluctuations as the slide moves up and down the pile. Most marinas would probably object to them in there slip. cause of the mounting to the pile. sorry i did not build them when i thought about it years ago.

Here in the upper chesapeake

some people mount a single sheeve block on each forward pile reeve a line through that with a substantial weight on the end and use a pair like that for the bow lines. Is that what you're referring to?

Used to do this when I was a kid....

... on the New Jersey shore 40 years ago. They work Great. Keep your boat centered, and you never have to worry about the tides again. (Bay of Fundy people possibley excepted) The other variation is to use a block at the top of the piling with a weight on the end in the water (usually an old paint can with cement in it. also worked well, and reduced any shock load the other method might have caused, although that was never really a concern Jeff

At the NY boat show,

I saw another version, can't remember what they were called, that was a heavy corrugated floating plastic sleeve that slipped over the piling and rose up and down on it. The corrugations, about two inches deep, kept the warp in place. I raised the proverbial eyebrow at the time, but I suppose they might be good.
