List numerous locations with Lat/Long and tide tables for that area. Wonder how accurate these prediction are? And in our hobby, is accuracy really needed except in areas where we can go aground.

Brian, The tides are greatly affected by the wind

and if you read carefully they are predictions only. The times will be close and the direction of ebb and flood don't vary by much. Beyond that use discretion.

Atmospheric pressure

A strong low pressure system can lift a high tide as much as two feet above predictions also. Bob V

There's also the amount of rain from

upstream rivers to contend with. These are, as mentioned, predictions only. Your milegae may vary. Read the small print...

Fairly accurate if one considers only sun, earth and moon position

There are THREE types of tides based on how the interaction of the sun & moon's gravitational effect do act on the tides - diurnal (once a day), semi-durnal (twice a day) and mixed (combinations of the two). Gravitational affects ...... versus *physical geography* are easy to predict mathematically so those 'benchmarks' of tidal datums are fairly accurate (but NOT including the local affects of 'wind tides' (surges) and flooding from rain, rivers, etc.) www.physicalgeography.net/fundamentals/8r.html

Not all Tide Tables are Created Equal

Last year I the local WM was always out of tide table books whenever I stopped in. So I got in the (bad) habit of using the tide prediction in the local paper. One evening I ran aground 20' from my berth. Looking for someone to blame I checked the tide tables. The paper's had the low tide arriving 45 minutes later than the NOAA prediction, which are the same as the WM tide books. I contacted the editor and they eventually got better numbers from the people who were providing the "service". But they still don't agree with the NOAA predictions.
