I always wanted one of these. Now that I love so close to the shore, and to my boat, I considered it a necessity!

It's amazing to me that even for a tide clock, a cheap Chinese quartz movement is available! All the value of these is in the case, the dial, and the name. I got mine on eBay. There's corrosion on the brass, under the lacquer, but I'm just going to leave it, and call it patina.

Anyone else a fan of these?

I live in Charleston and I am lucky enough to be able to drive my stink-pot to work on days when the tides and weather line up with my work schedule. There is a mud-bank at the mouth of the lane leading to my work's dock so I have to keep an eye on the tides. I have this on my wall at work.

You have a beauty. You‘ll find yourself checking more than you would think. We do ours. Always been a fan of these clocks. We have had ours now for 27 years.
Enjoy yours.

Very nice clocks.

Have any of you with them actually checked them against reality or at least a tide table chart? Since it appears the hi and lo are at 1/4 points and we all know the moon isn't... Just askin'. Is it the third hand that shows it?

We live and berth on the N. Indian river portion of the ICW.
As we are berthed athwart the current/tidal flow, so we have three tide clocks.
One on the boat, one in my man cave and one in the living room.
We like to know how high the boat will be sitting if we decide to go for a sunset cruise!

We have a Weems & Plath one that looks basically the same as @jviss’s. It seems to match general tide charts throughout the season just fine. We have had to get the movement replaced by Weems & Plath a couple times, but the latest replacement has been good for a few years so far, knock on wood.

The clocks don't work for us on the gulf coast since we have only one high and one low per day..

They are a very useful tool. Our mooring is in Plum Island Sound, Ipswich. We have to cross a bar to get out to Ipswich Bay. We can only cross two hours before and after low tide. The tide clock makes it easy, telling us when we can go.

Wait!? I want to understand that. I looked it up... and it seems you are correct but.... I don't get it. Don't all y'all cajuns use the same moon as the rest of the world?

Did you ever have someone you know and trust say or do something that whacked you on the side of the head and had you asking yourself "How'd I ever trust that dude?"

I am truly surprised anyone one, seemingly previously reasonably knowledgeable, would say that. Although we have seen some real dumbbells here recently, not you granger.

Of course, maybe I missed the intent of your :) at the end. Please, tell me you were kidding? Just for the newbies who may not know any beteer. You were kidding, right, right, right????:beer::beer::beer:

Now I’m puzzled too, as I never knew about this. Panning around Navionics it looks like Florida’s panhandle just east of Panama City is boundary line between the normal world and all this wonkiness. East of that line has a normal 12 hour tide cycle. As you approach that line the middle part of the cycle just gets all muddled, to the point where it becomes just one big tide every 13 hours. I guess it’s some effect of the shape of the Gulf?

Wow, that's weird. I never heard of that. I'm going to look into it.
