Hi all - I'm looking for a source for tidal current charts for casco bay. I'm having a brain dead morning because I know I used to know where to get them. I can find the data in table format but what I'm looking for is the chart with the current arrows on it. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Are there any for Maine?

Justin, A few years ago I wrote a software package that showed the up-to-the minute state of currents. In preparation for this I purchased all of the then available NOAA current charts. I don't recall any for Maine. The attached link seems to reinforce my recollection, in fact it states: "The U.S. government does not publish tidal current charts for the coast of Maine, but general information can be obtained in the Coast Pilot, the Tidal Current Tables for the United States (a separate publication from the Tide Tables), or the Canadian Tide and Current Tables. Canada also publishes a broad but interesting Atlas of Tidal Currents—Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine." Derek

See Tide Tool

I know Tide Tool doesn't have the flow arrows that you are looking for, but it does contain the speed of the tide in given areas. I used it up in Maine, quite successfully, for my planning last summer. Also try www.reedsalmanac.com This may be helpful. Or try www.maineharbors.com This, too, may be helpful.

Non-Noaa available

Yeah, I was pretty sure that NOAA didn't publish them but they exist. Don't know who did them up. I never saw 13 hour sets, only max ebb, max flow, and one with notations for slack water at varrious points. Looked well done but it could have been someone at home with a steady hand for all I know. I had a bad photo copy of a bad photocopy. I'm trying to get a graphical version to refer to while practicing for races. Some of the local currents are in excess of two knots at times. Its well worth sailing out of position to pick one up, especially to weather, but only at the right times. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
