I did a round hole behind the stove to help with exhaust hose replacement, but I put an inspection port back in mine since it is open to the engine compartment.

I REALLY like the idea of cutting open the seatbacks! :)

Where'd you get those panels??

Chris:

Where did you get your electrical panels? I really want to move my AC/DC to above the nav station, but also install a stereo and a VHF.

Also, what kind of wood did you use to build your panel? Is that teak, or is there a good way to make some other wood look like teak?

Did you move your batteries under the nav station? I have heard that the boat lists to port with the batteries in the stock location, but can't confirm that...I've never had my boat in the water!

Mike, My #511 lists to port only 0.5 degrees with a group 24 outboard and a group 27 inboard over by the motor. I think some boats are worse than that. I am considering moving mine too, but that is a lot of $$$ small number gauge cable.

Mike;

All the panels are Blue Seas. I made the box out of 5/8" birch plywood that I stained with mahagony. The trim is oak.

Mahogany was the closest I could come to teak in the Minwax family. It's not quite a perfect match, but it's close.

If you need I can take a ton of pictures of the box, wiring, etc and put into a pdf format.

As for the batteries. When I bought the boat, there were 2 batteries in the engine bay. I left the reserve one there and created a new space for the house batteries in the nav table space.

I am no expert on all of this but I can take pictures and create a 'newsletter' using InDesign and convert it into a pdf file for your future reference. It will take a few days to get all the pics together and in order...

Sounds great...I look forward to seeing that! I will try to simulate teak your way too. It's hard to find the real thing.

A buddy of mine just did some repair work inside his boat. He used a teak laminate to cover up all the water stained teak in his boat, mostly around windows. The stuff looks like wallpaper, and has an adhesive backing, but when in place, it looks really really good and you can't tell it is stuck on. I don't think it is cheap, but he's into building cabinets and woodworking as a hobby/trade, and he really likes the stuff.

It is probably 1/32" thick.
