I put a puck in my 1st O'Day 25

I set in wax. I took a NEW toilet wax ring and made a ball then pressed the puck into it. It worked great I never did change it and I sailed it for two years like that. I was going to upgrade it but sold the boat. Ross, some destinations we are concidering is fairlee creek and sassafras. At Lake Arthur in the areas that we can sail, it doesn't get too thin to quickly. The bridges limit the sailing. The lake area was at one time a Moraine, glacial lake. The State took over the land by eminent domain. They built a dam and flooded it. If we do decide on the Chesapeake I will let you know! r.w.landau

The skeg works.

I hate to admit this, but I hang a transom mount transducer on a removable skeg as Ross notes. I have the skeg bolted to the toe rail,on the starboard side just aft of the chain plate and it extends about 24 inches below the surface when sailing flat. The only time I'm really concerned about water depth is when I'm transiting the channel out of the harbor and the boat is level. If I'm sailing, I'm heeled over and the depthfinder doesn't work, but it's generally not an issue as I keep to an area that has 19' or better.
