thru-hull fitting on a polyethylene waste tank

Will there be problems with the materials used in the thru-hull and the waste tank gases? Rubber gaskets? I want to do this job but once in my lifetime.The present fitting (pvc)? is leaking and needs to be attended to asap. The thru-hull sounds like a perfect answer to my problem. Any and all comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.I've been told it works and I like the security of the concept.
