Thru Deck Cap

Had a little problem on Saturday and lost the cap for my waste water thru deck overboard. The largest one that I have found is 1 1/2" in diameter and is too small. I contacted Hunter and they do not know the size of the opening, but concur that the water and diesel caps are the same. The company that made these is out of business and they have no suggestions other than replacing the entire thru deck fitting. Any thoughts or ideas??? It is for a 1982 H-27. Thanks! Sorry to hear that.

I have not lost any but have one that is stripped. Have not got around to looking for a replacement yet but your post suggests I might be wasting my time. Now what?! Maybe we old Cherubini owners should ban together and buy a couple of "parts boats".

You might have a good point, Ed

I am beginning to think that the only choice I will have is to a) keep the plastic bag that is filled with wadded up paper towels in the hose (thru deck) forever; or b) buy a totally new thru deck kit and have to remove the old one, clamp the new one on the hose and re-install the new one -- which, by the way, will not fit the same screw holes (you can bet on that).

You need two measurements:

1. The diameter of the threaded opening. 1.25" is the most common...1.5" is the ISO standard found on most European boats, but rarely on US made boats. If you're getting a larger measurement than 1.5", I suspect you're measuring it in the wrong place, 'cuz those are the only two possibilities. 2. The number of threads per inch ("tpi"). Just stick a ruler in the opening and count 'em. This one is likely to be your nemisis. All the replacement caps today have 11 tpi, but some older fittings (pre 1980) had 16 tpi, which is almost impossible to find any more...I couldn't, and I had at least dozen wholesale sources, including importers. I finally had to replace the whole deck fitting. If you have 1.25" diameter deck fittings with 11 tpi, it doesn't matter who made the fitting...any replacement cap will fit.

The Thrifty Mariner had the ones I need

and I want to thank all of you for the input! I have three of them here, today. So, IF I ever have a problem again, I can have them available. They are 2" w/ 11 tpi. Price was right, too.
