throughulls and seacocks

I am planning to have my 74 E-29 hauled and bottom painted. I also want to have the throughulls replaced as well. When the throughulls are replaced, are the seacocks also? Or are the seacocks replaced separately? I had a seacock pop off when I was closing it a while back, and it was a very unpleasant experience-requiring the entire throughhull to be replaced as well.How often should throughulls/seacocks be replaced?Thanks, Steve

Replace both seacocks and thru hulls

In my opinion it easier, and in the end, less costly to replace both. I just replaced one of mine and had to saw off the seacock to get it out. The threads were that bad! My problems started with a heavily corroded tail piece constructed out of rather thin wall bronze and acting as a header for three 1.5 inch hoses (two cockpit scupper drains and one sink drain). One hose connected to the end of the tail piece and the other two connected to two brazed on tubes on each side of the tail piece. Both of the brazed on tubes snapped off while I was working on the engine (almost no pressure). Thankfully I was right there to close the seacock. Anyway, further inspection showed that the seacock was also heavily corroded. KirbySkipper of Uff DaEricson 32

Grease and white vinigar

A good bronze thru-hull should last thirty years if you USE it once a month.Grease them and keep the corrosive, chemical, urine etc effect off of 'em with white vinigar, but don't leave it on flush it out after 10 to 20.
