through hull oday 22

l've Just purchased a 79 0' Day 22.
The original manual says there is a drain Plug behind the center board but I have not found any fitting. The only through hulls are above the WL (sink & cockpit drain). is this normal or a later mod?
After the first Sail there was some water in the bilge (1/4 "after 2hrs), possible weap from around the centerboard lift tube .is this a regular problem ?
Any Info appreciated, I'm Sure I'll have lots more questions!

Hi Randy: I have a 1980 O'Day 22. It had a leak at the top of the centerboard pendant tube. Water would leak into the bilge only when sailing close-hauled with the board in the down position. I replaced the facory tube assembly with some pvc tubing that goes all the way up to the cockpit and eliminates the gap where the factory tube ended. I haven't had the boat out yet to try it out.

Thanks Tom,
My pendant tube does run straight to the cockpit, so this may be a later mod done by the previous owner. I can't be sure where the leak is but when bailing it dry there seemed to be some water seeping from the hull around the base of the tube that was a little strange as the boat was out of the water, possible it was flowing from some where else, or a porous area letting some water seep out.
Does your 22 have a drain plug?
Any thing else as a new owner I should know about these boats?

Hi Andy: My boat does not have a drain plug. My owners manual refers to one as well. Maybe those are found on the earlier model 22's that don't have a centerboard?

Do you have a boom vang on yours I was thinking of installing one amongst other projects over the winter.

Yes, my boat has a vang(good thing). The only other change I've made was to buy a new rudder from IdaSailorMarine. The factory rudder developed a lot of weather helm when the boat was heeled very much and it has more draft than the keel with the centerboard up. After some groundings and rudder repairs I decided to get a rudder that kicks up. The new rudder almost eliminated any weather helm and seems to make the boat faster.
