I'm preparing to replace the pipe stem through hulls in my C-30 #34 "Old lady!" I want to use marlon through fittings, I know this has been done on a lot of the older models, so I'm seeking some advice on removing the pipe stems and recommendations on the through hulss and sizes... Thanks Mike Pz

Through Hull fittings

I did mine several years back. I went with bedding bronze through hull fittings, teak blocks and ball valves. Check the archives as I did. Wear a mask and eye protection as cutting through the "volcanos" and drilling thru the hull creates a lot of dust.

Marlon Problems

FYI, Last year I had one marlon valve seize resulting in breakage of the handle leaving the valve in the open position until it could be replaced. This year smother one is getting noticeably harder to turn. Both were only a few years old. There is a tag on them saying they recommend lubrication twice yearly. Not sure I like disassembling below water line plumbing just to grease a valve. Will be installing bronze valves when I haul later this year. Jeff http://home.teleport.com/~salmo/DejaVu/
