throttle/shift quadrant

Has anybody replaced their throttle/shift quadrant. My boat has the shift lever and throttle in two separate places and I find it less than ideal when things get busy while docking. The throttle is a push/pull cable located under the traveler track and the shift is on the normal location. I can see at one time they were together but now the the throttle portion has been cut and moved to its current location. I have been looking at a new quadrant that is all in one package but first am looking for someone who has already replaced theirs so as to gather advice on make/model, cable length, necessary modifications, holes cut and drilled, etc.. I have a Yanmar 1gm10 Thanks........Tim

Thanks for the info. I believe my shifter is original and was retrofitted to fit the yanmar. The cables are very old and corroded. The end fittings were cut off and clamped on. The Teleflex ch2100 was the shifter I was considering. Any idea on cable lengths? I need to replace the entire package.

yes, the original setup has your right hand on throttle, left on shift lever, foot on the tiller, with 3/4 keel, and prop behind the rudder... When you finish juggling these you can lift your head just in time to see what youre going to crash intoSent from my iPhone

Yes that looks like the teleflex quadrant. Did you use the 3 meter control cables? I know things will be different for my setup.

I cant remember. 3 meters seems long? I mounted my shifter on the port coaming high. It works well there as now I can watch what i will crash into the whole time. Sent from my iPhone

That's too funny. I hit the dock last week cause my left arm was on the shifter, right arm looking for the throttle, right leg pushing the tiller, and my head below the dodger.

My dockmate in his Catalina 30 makes it look sooo easy compared to this Vega. The marina narrow waterway, I can barely make the 90 degree turn into the slip without backing up and re positioning. The Cat 30 just turns so easily in tight quarters.

Lyric has a Spinlock ATCU. This is a single lever control head that I really like. Push in for one function and pull out for the other. It has a removable handle which makes it more difficult to steal the boat unless the thief is familiar with the
unit. If you lose or misplace the handle you can use a winch handle as a substitute. Jamestown Distributors carries it for about $220.00 cables not included. As mentioned length isn't to critical if oversize. Try and use the same length cable for both. It's
a good plan to carry a spare and probably easier to just carry one spare instead of two different lengths. Walt

Removable lever sounds interesting. I will check into it. Theft protection is always prudent. Great thing about sailboats is most crack heads up here are clueless to how they operate.

Thanks for the link, it helps to know what the item looks like. The install looks like just 4 additional screws while utilizing the already present shaft bore of the original. The pictures in the marine catalog have been cropped to only show the front face of the ch2100. Ball joint connectors sounds like the way to go. I will check my fittings tomorrow. Cheers.

I should have said that this works with a Teleflex throttle control. It will only allow the engine to start out of gear and it can then be revved up to warm it up. Then you put it into gear by pushing the lever in. From: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com on behalf of Tim Malone alaskaflyfish@... [AlbinVega] AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com
