Throttle/Pitch control assembly

I'm looking at a Vega that's for sale, Volvo MD6A.
It has one problem I'm not comfortable with:
The engine throttle/pitch control is missing the handle and is
manipulated using a screwdriver stuck through the hole in the shaft. A
separate control has been installed to operate the throttle only.

As I'm not familiar with the operation of these controls I'm unsure as
to what to do.
Are new throttle/pitch control assemblies still available, or is there
maybe a good used one available from someone who has upgraded their
engine/gearbox, or even maybe a suitable replacement?

Thanks!

Peter.

Hi Peter

Where abouts are you? The throttle assembly sometimes comes available when
someone changes their engine. Some Vega owners have seperated their throttle
and pitch controls and seem to be able to get more control.

Thanks for the reply, Steve.
I'm on the west coast of Canada, near Victoria British Columbia.

I'm not familiar with these controls and didn't realize the two
functions could be separated successfully.

Here's a link to a picture of the actual problem, provided by the
owner:

The present owner is concerned (on his mechanic's advice) that the
shaft where the screwdriver is inserted may break off and cause an
accident, and is reluctant to allow a sea trial for the boat.
