Throttle on pedestal, shift on sidewall

Close to buying a Hunter 27 and looked closely today at a 1980. The boat originally had Renault power but was repowered with a one cylinder Yanmar. No one seems to know when or much about the conversion, but who ever did it left the Renault panel in place - didn't replace it with a Yanmar control panel. Here's the odd thing - the throttle control was on the Edson pedestal, but the shift was on the Renault panel mounted to the sidewall of the cockpit. Does anyone know if that was the normal arrangement of the controls on the 1980 boats? Has anyone moved them so that they were both on the pedestal?

Not Normal

I have a 1980 H'27 with the Renault diesel. The arrangement on mine is with both the engine controls (throttle and shift) on the pedestal. I have the original Renault panel (san charge, avec charge) and the only retrofit is an engine cutoff (not needed) below that. Having the shift on the panel sounds like a pain, but I imagine its doable.
