Hi Dick, if you have the standard Edson pedestal..

it has a small bolt inside the pedestal that is used to adjust the amount of tension to help hold your throttle setting. Terry

28.5 problem

Terry, I have the same problem on my 28.5; is this adjustment in the top of the binacle under the compass? % seconds with a cscrew driver and 2 minutes with Lifeseal?

Hi S,Sauer, it was on our H28. I never had to..

adjust it, however. The Edson site is supposed to have information on this conrol setting feature. See the site link below. Terry http://www.edsonmarine.com/faq/index.html#q1

Use a Clamp

I had the same problem where the adjustment at the pedistal would not hold enough tension no matter how much I tightened it. I put a small adjustable clamp on the outside of the cable down close to where the cable attaches to the engine. This clamp has an adjustable bolt that puts pressure on the outside of the cable to give it resistance. Just adjust it enough until the cable does not slip. It has been on about 4 years with no other adjustment necessary. The only other alternative for me was to tear apart the pedistal and replace the throttle tensioner there.

To Forego the Clamp, ...

I used to tie off the throttle with a cord that had a loop around the throttle handle and used a clove hitch on the pedestsl guard to hold the lever in place until I replaced the cable and rectified the problem.

the tennis ball hack

I took a tennis ball and cut a hole at each "pole" and jam/slide it onto the lever.

Tension adj. first....

Dick: I would suggest that you try the throttle adjustment screw first. If that does not do the trick, then there is a device that you can use on the cable. Very easy to apply. I used one on my H'31 for the last 15 years. It is still functioning on the original factory cable after all this time.
