Throttle lever - not controlling engine

It seems that my throttle lever isn't controlling the RPMs of the engine, it will put the boat in gear but the RPMs will stay the same (OK don't get all technical on me, the RPMs drop a bit due to the fact that the prop is under load:)). This was verified by looking at the engine while my friend went from idle to full throttle, the lever on the engine that would control the fuel didn't move. Anyone else have this type of problem and what was the solution?

Sounds like you have a problem with the cable - could be loose, disconnected or broken or any combination of the three. Open up the pedestal to verify the throttle cable is firmly connected to the handle and moves with it. Same at the engine linkage end. Somewhere between the handle on deck and the engine, there is a gremlin. The good news is this is a common and easy repair/replacement on most boats

The typical Volvo Penta engine control has two cables run to it. One is for throttle, the other for the transmission. Your throttle cable is either disconnected or binding somewhere. A set-screw on the shift handle begins the disassembly of the controller.

Thanks for your replies. I hope to get a look at before the end of the week.

So, the problem was not the cable or lever, it was the throttle body its self. It was hard to move and didn't "spring" back to idle like it should have...used a bit of WD40 let it sit and moved it back and forth with a little force until she freed up. Everything OK now.
