I have just purchased a 1996 Hunter 336 and I do like it. It's been neglected and so I have the task of giving her some much needed TLC. My issue is that the throttle control starts out in neutral in a horizontal forward position so that makes forward throttle heading down to the floor of the cockpit. It doesn't seem normal to me and from the pictures I see neutral is straight up. I would appreciate any help on this issue. Thanks ~ Rising Star

You should be able to readjust the lever at the binnacle. Loosen the screw and reset where it should be at. This adjustment can also be adjusted from the transmissions side as well.

My buddy has a 336 and I am pretty sure that his throttle control is the same way. Forward is pushed down towards the deck and reverse is pulled up. He always seems to be leaning over the wheel when making adjustments.

Take the compass off after carefully marking to be sure it goes back correctly. Then you should see the arm to which the throttle wire is attached. Loosen the bolt that holds that arm to the lever axle and without moving the arm, rotate the throttle lever to where ya want it. To see a diagram, go to "Boat Info" then Downloads General Info" , then scroll down to the Merriman Steering PDF.. click on that and scroll down to find the control hook-up.. You probably don't have Merriman stuff, but it is going to be very similar.

Or you could do this. I moved mine. Where it should be now.

Good luck

So Rick, it looks like you moved it up to where the auto pilot unit was and moved the auto pilot to the forward position. Is that what I'm seeing?

Correct. Took some getting used to with the auto pilot. I never did switch the buttons to work correctly with it being backwards, but have gotten used to it over the years.

Mine is on the right and I push down to go forward. I'm pretty sure I could flip it to the left, but I'm now used to it.

Hi Rick, did you have to get new linkage to move your controls? If so where did you get them and what was the cost? Thanks!!

Yeah I did. They are teleflex marine cables. You can get them at WM or online. I added two feet to existing length. I dont remember what they cost but it wasnt too bad. Which is why I dont remember.

Cheers

Hi Rick, I had a mechanic come down tho help move my controls and we ran into a couple of issues. The control arms were conflicting with the gauges and interior fiberglass on the binicle and the control plate stuck out of the hole from where it was prior. I would like my mechanic to get in contact with you to help resolve this. Thanks - Ted 360.798.1500
