My throttle on my Edson pedestal, Yanmar 2GM, is always coming back, when it is been pushed foward, meaning the rpm goes down. I have to keep it attach with a cable to maintain the speed. If any one know what could be the problem?

Throttle cable

Alain; There should be a clamp on the throttle cable. It most likely has loosened or come completely off of the cable. The clamp, when tightened, exerts some pressure on the outer cable sheath, squeezing it against the inner cable. Very low tech! Adjust it to get the correct cable tension. If it is not there (look near one of the cable ends.), you can buy one from Morse Cables and probably Edson. You might want to try a small "C" clamp, or some other device, before you buy the required clamp to make sure that is the problem. Just don't tighten the thing so as to ruin the cable. Easy does it. Tighten a bit at a time then try the cable. You'll know when it's right. I don't know if West Marine, Defender or Boat/US carries the clamp. You might want to check with them. Good Luck PAT

Check the archives, also

Alain, Check the archives, also. This has been discussed many, many times in the past. Also, check the Photo Forum. Someone also posted picture for a remedy. I had the same problem when I changed to a better Morse cable last year. They should be changed after 10 years, as preventive maintenance.

Throttle Slip

On the later models there is an adjustment inside the pedestal on the lever. Simply remove the compass to adjust.

towel!

Or, you can just fold a small hand towel over a few times and wedge it between the throttle and the pedestal.....a wool watch cap (which also makes a great cover for the compass) works well, too!

Trottle clip

I started to have the same problem when my compass leaked it's damping oil on the trottle cable. Several people recently indicted there is a purchaseable clip you can place on the cable to increase it's resistance. I just use a tube of sun tan stuff it works ok. Kevin
