Throttle Cable Replacement

My throttle cable has broken and is either stuck or secured inside the pedestal. Has anyone had this problem, or better yet, or overcome this problem?

I have removed the compass and upper ring of the pedestal and cannot get the cable to move. I am not too sure that removing the pedestal will give much access either.

I have considered removing the parts of the cable I can get to and run a new one along side the old up the pedestal. I would be more comfortable if I could get the old one out to check length, etc.

I have a 1984 34' Hunter.

Not familiar with your boat, so this is basically a guess. I would look for a clamp of some kind under the cockpit floor, close to the base of the pedestal. Possible there is more than one, but would bet the first beer, there is a clamp in there somewhere. Will almost certainly be a clamp at the engine end, which keeps the cable housing from moving when you use the throttle, instead of the inside which is supposed to move.
