Throttle cable adjustment question

I recently replaced the throttle and Trans cables on my 81' Hunter 30. I have an Edson Pedistal, and I got the cables from them. The new cables work well and are super smooth. In fact the throttle cable is so smooth that it will not hold past 2/3 throttle (2100 RPM). Even with the engine off, if I move it to full throttle, it will just spring back to the 2/3 position. I looked all ofer the pedistal assembly and I did not find a tension screw for the throttle. Would changing the position of the Clevis pins on the cable help? Any ideas on what I should try?

J Clamp?

Fred: Not sure which pedestal there is on your model. I posted some pictures in the photo forum on throttle creep. There is a picture and part number for the J clamp. It solves the problem and was recommended to me by the Yanmar service person.

Thanks Steve!!!

I have the new brake you installed. I took it off the old cable, but I didn't know what it was, so I just put it aside (I kept it though). Now that I have seen it in your photos, I understand what and why it works. I was very puzzled at why the old cable didn't have the problem. Thanks!!!

Fred, not to tight on the ol' J.

Fred: Just give that J-Clamp enough tension to hold the RPMs. If you over tighten them it will be too stiff and it may also crush the cable housing. Really does not take much tension. Glad I could help.

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the tip Steve! I will try it out tomorrow (Thurs). I put in to take half the afternoon off since the forcast is 75 degrees, wind 12-22 knots WSW. Should be good, probably the last good day of the season!
