Broke my throtle cable last Sat. Anyone ever had replace one. It doesn't look like fun. Boat is a '81 H30 with a 2GM20. Looks like I may need to remove the binicle. Hope I'm wrong. Not sailing this week end Dan

Throttle C Replacement

Hi Dan. I replaced mine a couple of years ago. Had to remove the binnacle from its post, slacken off the streering chain, take out the binnacle post base screws and lean the post forward. Was then able to remove old T.Cables and thread in the new. Need to be carefull when routing cables to the engine to minimize 90deg. turns and tight curves. Moe fiddley the fun. Frank

Very tricky

Edson claim you can do this by just removing the compass and binnacle, and they have data sheets that explain it. However I also suspect they employ space-aliens with super long skinny arms and fingers. I struggled for about two hours trying to use their suggested technique, before I gave up and disconnected the steering and removed the entire pedestal. At that point I realized why their suggested technique wasn’t working. I had an aluminium sleeve inserted into the base of the pedestal that held the cables and wiring to the side. I had to lower the pedestal to almost horizontal and remove the sleeve before I could get the cables to budge an inch. Do check out the Edson site though, they have some great worksheets and schematics. Oh, also, get the part number off the cable before replacing it. I made the mistake of contacting Hunter, who gave me the wrong part number. That was a very expensive mistake! Good luck!
