My Hunter 28.5 Traveller is missing its line. I've been able to deduce that I need 3/8 inch line to control it from the manual, but I am not quite sure how much and how to thread it so it's useful. Does anyone have advice on how much line and how to thread it?

Mine is quite simple

I have two lines that control my traveler that is located just infront of the cockpit seating. I have a small eye in a line that is connected to the end of the traveler and it leads to the block on either the port or starboard side, then the line leads back to the traveler and around the block there and out through the cam cleat. Hope this helps. Mine is a Rutgerson.

While you're at it...

I don't know what year your 28.5 is but mine, an '86, this past year needed replacement turning blocks on the outside where it( the line) meets the cockpit coaming. The plastic ball bearings in the pulley housing broke thru. I had to remove the trav line and rethread it thru 2 new Harkens I bought as replacements. So check out the condition on the outer pulley and save yourself a re-do of traveler line threading. Once the line gets weathered its pretty fat and inflexible to push thru the housing at the base center of the traveler.. Jim McCue
