I bought a 1979 O'day 12 last year. There are two threaded plugs in the cockpit, one at the bottom of each of the built in benches. I am assuming the air trapped inside the benches is for buoyancy, why run the risk of water entering that space by including plugged holes? My question is: Why are they present? Thanks.

William - The drains are there so that if water gets in through the holes fasteners are installed through you have a way of getting them out. I used to like to lube my plugs with vasoline or similar nonwaterbased grease to make sure they didn't leak. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
