I was watching 'Sailing Magic Carpet' older video recently, and saw that they installed a couple of chrome vents that could be closed from the outside by screwing them shut. They looked very similar to the Vetus mushroom vents Vetus Denouden ATHOS1 | Fisheries Supply , but the Vetus vent closes from the inside. I want to replace two cowl style air vents on the top of the rear transom, but something that can be closed from the outside. Was wondering if anyone knew of one that does this? I was going to ask Aladino from Sailing Magic Carpet, but i cant find the video now and they rarely answer questions. I have not found the right combo of search keywords yet.

I'm not sure. I have never seen one in person. They have a threaded knob style handle on the inside from the pics I have seen. Dont know how they work exactly. If not, I guess maybe I could just try and modify one by making a new base with a threaded insert. It looks like the threaded rod is secured to the cover. Not sure how well though, or how. Might need to just order one and see what i can do.
The ones I have seen have a threaded rod connected to the top cover. Usually with a knob on the inside end of the rod. Turning the knob, or turning the cover threads it up or down accordingly.

I had one of these (I think) on my PDQ, and the way it works you can either spin it shut from the inside with the knob, or spin the whole top from the deck side to snug it down. Since it was attached to a duct on the inside, you closed it by spinning the top. Worked great. A very simple mechanism.
Mine was near the bow and had to be closed in heavy weather.

Yes, water issue. I'd like the option to be able to snug them down offshore in heavy weather. The intake leads directly to engine compartment, so be nice to able to close them quickly from cockpit in heavy breaking seas.
In my case, the inner knob and screen were removed, and it was used as a water heater exhaust vent.
