Thoughts on Non-Skid... Repair or Kiwi Grip?

I had a dark deck, ie gray, we had to trow sea water all over the place before going somewhere on the deck. The sun heat of dark colour very quickly, try and stay with ligth colour if you want to walk on it barefoot on a nice sunny day! The gray was good looking but non functional for me

For those who have used kiwi,how did you color match and tint.

I didn't tint. The gray suited me fine on a white deck, so....

I bought the stuff here by the way.

When I bought my boat I had wet decks.... Reflected in price paid. I recored from cockpit to foredeck on both sides cutting from top. When it came to replacing the non skid we bought the original pattern of non skid which is still available and made sheets with gel coat then epoxied these onto deck. Came out great and after nine years still good. I would have done a few things different when applying but overall love results

I'm 3/4 of the way thru my kiwigrip job on a 42' boat. Found out that all the paint stores have switched to some new enviro paint mixing system per epa requirements. Making tinting of the kiwigrip much more complicated. And I'm gett8ng a lot of popped bubbles in the paint over time because I put it on too thick but I don't see how I could put it on thin and get good even coverage. It takes a while to cure too. We let it sit for 2 weeks and then tied a bike to the rail and the bike tire lifted the paint. Did plenty of the prescribed prep of washing with a degreaser ajd scrubbing with a green scotchbrite pad. Lots of very positive reviews out there but not from me :-(

my experience exactly. If I were to do it again, I would experiment with different rollers on some plywood. Also, I would more aggressively clean and sand the old nonskid. I did not sand.

To those thinking about Seadek. Way too expensive for non-skid on the whole boat. But, because of a p/o that just threw down some paint on my cockpit floor with no prep I could not get all of the paint out from the diamond non-skid so I was left with... grind it down or cover it up. I chose to cover it up with Seadek. Custom cut for my the '83 Hunter 31. (They should have the pattern) it's been down a year and a half and I love it. Easy on the feet and doesn't get hot. Here are a couple of pics. Easy to install total cost about $400.00, it beat the heck out of grinding/sanding it all down then painting

I went to the Sunroad Boat Show in San Diego this past weekend. There is a really nice J-124 for sale (was for sale last year too, lol). Anyway, the J had what I am 99.9% sure is Interlux Interdeck non-skid. I thought it looked great and the texture was just right, grippy but won't hurt bare feet. I do think you'd draw blood if you scuffed your knees on it though.
Anyway, since I'll be using Interlux primer on the decks I'll probably go with Interdeck. There is another forum member doing a restoration of the same boat as mine and he got Kiwi-Grip. Hopefully he will finish his decks before I do so I can check it out.

I painted my boat two years ago with Interlux Brightside. For the non-skid I mixed in Interlux's Intergrip Non-skid additive. I liked that I could control how heavy the Non-skid was. It was also very easy to mix in. Still pleased with the results two years later
