Hello All,
Looking for input before the season kicks off up here in the north.
Last year I purchased an O'Day 26 great condition and all that. However the po went ahead and was talked into putting on an ablative to the bottom. The boat never before had a bottom coat, it was gell.
So, it is blue, and when you touch it you are blue! It has only that one coat, and no base coat prior to his putting on that coat with a roller and brush it appears.
Is there a way to remove it, and should I? I can see small area's of the gell coat coming back through as the blue ablative wears down.
Or do I simply go along with the process of now adding a coat every few years?
Really where I sail we do not have the need for strong ablatives. I see lots of boats with gell bottoms and they are fine. A good power wash in the fall after haul out does the job. We are fresh water and clean water, so no nasties attaching to the bottom.
Anyway as launch time approaches I am looking at how best to approach this issue. I can get by another year with this bottom if need be. But be good to decide what direction I need to go with this.
Again thank you for the forum.
