You are one size too big

i examined the hatch for just that option, i didn't think i could do trim it without affecting the integrety of the hatch, but i will look at it again.
I just got off the phone with rudy and he is calling the factory, which is bad news. Good news would have been;"sorry i sent the wrong one, i will send another out right away".
It looks like i may be trying to repair the old hatch.
Keith,

I looked at your hatch picture. You are one size too big. Get a West Marine or Defender and look up the measurements for the G966-1111 versus G965-1111!

Does your hatch have two arms? If yes, then you definitely have the bigger hatch.

As I said, my hatch from West Marine matched up all holes excet one was about a quarter inch off. And maybe that was not used on the original hatch. With the butyl tape mine is work well.

The reason I used the local West Marine was to let them do the shipping if it did not match up. Shipping is a PITA.

Again, mine is a Bomar without gasket. The Butyl tape is in effect making a gasket when you follow directions.

Yes, you can get a direct replacement that fits.

Hi Ed
my hatch has two latch handles, but i think only one support arm. i have it repacked to can't check it easily.
I am waiting on a call back from rudy, he said he is talking to someone at bomar. he wants me to hold on to the hatch till he gets an answer. I was hoping to get another one on the way today..
btw check this site out, esp the prices...
http://www.keenzo.com/showproduct.asp?ID=3059599 and look at this aluminum model, a full 100 dollars cheaper than i have found anywhere else. http://www.keenzo.com/showproduct.asp?ID=3059605
Just to check them out, i called customer service to ask a question about a screen kit. they answered right away and were helpful.

Keith,

Mine from West Marine came with a screen! No gasket. I printed the page from Defender and West matched the price. But it came during their next scheduled delivery.

When I bought my Bomar Hatch from Defender Marine, I opened the box and discovered that one of the dogs was broken. So I got on the phone and called them. They sent it right out quick for me. So I can honestly say that Defender Marine will address problems quickly.

I agree whole heartedly about defender marine. They are who I bought my paint, primer, thinner, and other items from. When I had a problem of my own fault regarding the primer. they are sending me another quart of primer free of charge!

I waited all morning for a call from D & R Marine because I was told yesterday that he should have an answer for me by the afternoon, or this morning. When i called a few minutes ago they still didn't have an answer for me. :cussing: I was told that Rudy was still waiting to hear something from the the person he talked to at the factory. I have a hatch that doesn't fit, that is not the size listed in their online catalog. It seems to me that by now D & R should be telling me to send it back for full refund including shipping charges. Instead all i get is a "wait for an answer". So I am sending it back anyway. Hopefully I will get my money back.

I called Rudy today and they said that indeed the factory changed the specs w.o letting him know. It is true that the new size of that model is a little larger
They are going to give me a refund.
I decided to go with a bomar low profile N1000 series. It is alittle smaller flange, and I may get to play with epoxy a little if the screw holes are too close to the existing cut out, but I have a way of fixing that in mind if need be. It is a heavier hatch and hopefully if and when i step on it while dealing with the halyards my foot wil not go through it. Also If I am ever lucky enough to make it to salt water, but unlucky enough to get into rough seas, then it will not give way. Of course I know in that situation I would have alot of other things to worry about on this boat, but it seems that a big hole in my foredeck would be a really bad bad thing!

Solar Vent, that is what is in the middle. Looks like a Nicro brand (most are round, but that model was square).

Keith,
Years ago, I accidentally stepped on my forward hatch and cracked the lens. I wound up going to a plastic factory in a nearby town and buying a thicker better lens for it. The guy cut it to fit for me and I installed it. These hatches can break very easy without stepping on them. For instance, you may be on a beat with your hatch open and decide to turn around and go on a run. All of a sudden you hear a loud slam and you notice the wind blew the hatch closed. Who ever thinks to tighten the adjusters on the hatch? It's possible that if the hatch dogs are down, they can break out the inside corners of the hatch, at least on my hatch. Other hatches may be different. At any rate, hatches are hard to replace on these boats and this is why I opted to rebuild mine.
