Thanks R.W.

No, I have not seen those sites. Guess that is what I would be looking for if I was in the market for an repo'ed boat. And... I wasn't jumping or judging you about your post. I understand the frustrations linked to the current economic situation. However, I was trying to look at the good side of this situation, that being, getting a bigger boat for less money. Nothing more, my friend. As Spock would say... \//_ live long and prosper!

Only the beginning

This is only the beginning of the boat downturn. Since this is the first year that those subprime mortgages start to reset the consumer squeeze will go on for several years unless they all get a bail out from their Uncle. I would wait and watch your area for the deal you want. I do agree with the poster that saw a downturn in blowboating. The baby boomers with the disposable income are aging and sailing may be more than they want to deal with soon. I know we all have the 80+ year old that still is an active sailor in their area. These types of hardy soul are in the minority these days. On the bright side, if the dockominium developers don't have a market to sell off the marinas maybe we can get a slip again. There are large new condo highrises right across from NYC that are changing from selling their units as condos to rentals because of the current situation.

Brian, thanks. We are all different and have different

views and ideas. There are times people like me are going to push them. It was good to get them out, and it was good to be sanitized! It is great when people disagree but even greater is to know that respect is still present. At least we continue to sit at the same table and discuss common ideas! Sincerely r.w.landau Edited: My favorite Star trek line that had many wordings. It was Bones major line. He's dead Jim. Jim....he's dead.

You always owe it to yourself to make a lower

offer when purchasing anything. It is for the seller to reject or accept. I knew a guy who would walk into JC Penney or Sears and ask to speak to a manager and proceed to make a lower offer on already reduced display merchandise. His success ratio was better than 50%. It seems managers have quite a bit of discretion in the pricing of clearance merchandise and he enticed them to use that power which they possesed. I tried it once and it did not work for me but I got a counter offer lower than the posted price. The market's future outlook will influence prices now. With a recession looming in the horizon a lower offer now may seem quite reasonable to a smart seller.

Tough Times Coming

There are definately some tough times coming. I am sure that you will see more boats forsale, more people not being able to pay their slip fees, and other problems. It is rather tragic that things are going this way. Everyone says that this is just a natural cycle of the market but there a few things that could be done to ease this upcoming problem. The area I live in seems to be more of a bedroom community. People drive at least 1.5 hours to get to work in Northern VA. They bought the large houses in this area because they could afford more in this area. The problem that they will face is with the current price of gas per gallon it is getting so expensive for them to drive back and forth to work that it soon cost so much that they will have a tough decision between making it to work or paying the mortgage. If the US government lowered the interest rates and they were able to get the price of gas to go back down to $1.50 a gallon, or slightly cheaper, the economy would start coming back.

R W have you subscribed to the Gov Auctions .com?

Is it worth the $39/yr? Always looking ofr a deal, some people made a lot of money during the depression. Frank

Recession

We are not in a recession, in macroeconomics, a recession is a decline in a country's gross domestic product (GDP), or negative real economic growth, for two or more successive quarters of a year.

no recession here

With millions of rebuilding dollars flowimg and 90 dollar a barrel oil the economy here is and will be good. I think a big part of the boat sales issue is finding a place to store it. And i mean a place where you would want to sail. Also what would that boat be worth if the price of your boat slip doubled. The boat buying market would get smaller with every increase.

I have been waiting for this for nearly a year.

T Rowe Price equity stock hit a 52 week low and I was able to add 100 shares to my Roth IRA. ;D

Looks like that boat came with a lot of nice gear - canvas, a wind generator - what else?

Yeah Ross...

There is some good to having the economy sag. However, too many people are affected by the results. But the upturn is lower stock prices on some eye catchers, lower prices on some high ticket items also. My problem is my "new to me" boat fund is suffering.
