I have been giving some thought to converting the icebox to a refrigerator on my 1986 Catalina 27. I was wondering if anybody has done this and what benefits or problems developed Thanks for your input Charlie Gruetzner Angels' Grace

Check out Isotherm

I am thinking of doing the same and I am considering the Isotherm unit from Sweden. It uses the movement of the boat to disipate the heat. The average hourly power consumption is only about .4 amps. www.isotherm.com

Look at Technautics Marine. They have a compact unit that is very economical w/the electricity. These units a more expensive than the A-B units but they use holding plates.

The compressor used by all of the major manufacturers in marine refrigeration is the Danfoss. The compressor draws 5 amps when running. Keel coolers work if you have sufficient surface area to remove the heat.
