Thinking of Grand Isle State Park, LA for December Adventure. Stay in my RV in Park. Day sail the gulf. I could bring either my 26X or my beach cat catamaran. Anyone familiar with the area? Recommendations? I'm leaning toward the beach cat...............

Not much in terms of facilities.. Check out the park info.. no boat launch.. Folks usually launch at a nearby ramp and keep mostly fishing boats in a local marina.. Beach cat could work but you'd have to launch on backside of island and sail around. It would be prudent to check with the park folks to make sure that they'd allow ya to operate/beach the cat over a few days.. Gulf would be cold enough that you'd have to have a wet suit to sail the cat.

Launching the 26x at the nearby ramp and keeping at the marina is an attractive suggestion.......I could go fishing.

Timing is everything.
Weather in LA in December is variable. If you time it right, might be in the 70's, clear skies, and light breeze. Conversely,
If there is a cold front passing thru, it might be in the 30's, squalls with a lot of rain & wind. So, plan accordingly. As Kloudie mentioned, wet suit is the uniform of the day if you are on a cat.

Lots of good fishing from grand isle....and from venice too...
If you like fishing, then the mac is definitely the better choice.

Taking the Mac, going January, have to work Christmas eve and day (hospital RN).
Ya'll tell me what to fish for and what to use please. Cast? Troll? Bottom fish? Possible to try for blue crabs in winter there?

Redfish and Speckled Trout are plentiful in the Grand Isle area. You may also catch a few sharks, stingrays, and depending on your bait you may catch plenty of hardhead catfish. If you have the right tackle you can chase marlin and tarpon.
Your choice whether you want to cast, troll, bottom fish. I have done all three with success. Live bait works well but you are likely to catch more trash fish. Most folks crab in the summer but I'm sure you can catch them in the winter. I like to fish artificial bait and all the local tackle shops can tell you what they are hitting on.
