Until this last Feb, I've been out of sailing for the last 12 yrs. I'm sure the issue of fiberglass resins has been flogged to death. Our 11.0A is a '79 and was in great shape when we bought it in Feb. Great as in a perfect bottom but had to do things as it was neglected and never upgraded with electronics/propane/brightwork/running rig etc. I discussed bottoms with the surveyor and his opinion was that the older resin "formulas" are seemingly doing better than the mid eighties/newer. I had a Gulfstar 44 until 2000 which was built in the early eighties and it had blisters galore. The former owner fixed as condition of sale. In '85 I had an 11.0A made in 1981 and it had a "few" blisters that I could keep up with. In '83-85, I had 9.2C made in '79 that was clean....In short, I would not dismiss the earlier S2s as there were not many made and you might be looking for awhile. (Depending on condition of course). The weak spot in both my 11.0A boats are/were the Volvo MD17 engines. Do NOT get raw water cooled. My latest is fresh water cooled and it runs good but burns some oil....Don't know history of other engines
