I am thinking about going from H23 to the 25.5. Any advice? Comparison to the 26.5?

I really like my 25.5 - read the owner reviews on

this website. I have the deep keel version with an outboard motor. So far our boat has just been used for daysails. It is easy to sail and seems to be fast. This fall I'll probably overnight some. Read the archives to get more info about this model...

25.5 vs 26.5

the 25.5 certainly has a very nice interior and is available with an inboard engine. but the 26.5 has a walk thru transom, open cabin layout, huge cockpit locker and is significantly faster, 189 phrf vs 225 phrf.

Looking At Hunter 25.5

Hi Ron, I have the fin keel/inboard version. The boat has alot going for it for a 26-foot boat: good head rooom, comfortable for 2-3 people for a long weekend, can do simple cooking on a good alcohol stove, decent headroom, especially with pop-top up, can install plumbing (we did). On performance, while not a speed demon, the boat sails very well in light air and we have been ok in 30 knots. In 12-15 knots at 150 degrees we averaged hull speed (6.3) for 18 hours bringing the boat home to NJ. On a specific boat, inspect for water damage where the chainplates attach below and check the condition of the underside of the cabin sole--alot of these need replacement at 15+ years. If an inboard, look at the condition of the exhaust and muffler. Check the condition of the rudder hardware. All this stuff can be fixed, but if there are problems account for them in pricing. Good Luck! Dave Weir

Marine survey

When looking at a used boat that is over ten years old, you will need to inspect it before purchase to find out the condition first. I suggest a surveyor or someone is very knowledgable about sailboats. Suggest that you pull lthe boat to see the condition of the hull, strut, prop shaft, cutlass bearing, rudder Good luck and I believe the responses from everyone else pretty much sums up the 25.5 and 26.5. Great Boat!

Hi - I have sailed a 25.5 for the past 5 seasons and I love it. It is a little light, so we just reef a little sooner than some of the bigger, heavier boats. But, overall I wouldn't trade it for anything else in that size range. - Kathy

buying a 25.5

Some things to look at.......Rudder leading and trailing edge...fixable but a pain. Chain plate leakage. Also beware that the boat is tender at dockside...likes to roll when stepping on board. Is it a wing keel or a long fin or 3/4 fin . Does it come with a trailer? What motor.....Older honda's are hard to find upgrades / parts for.
