Time to stir the pot? It's you and your other, just two of you. You have unlimited money - won the big lotto! Your planning to sail the world. What sailboat would you buy, not necessarily new. What features would you like to have. What equipment? Me I would go and buy "Lost Soul" from Bitchin so he would stop crying. Jim S/V Java

I would buy the Dashew's boat Beowulf and try that for a while.

More Lost Souls

Jim, can I go in 1/2 with you on "Lost Soul" for about a year, then you can buy back my half for .90 on the dollar! It would be fun aye! Then I would like to "settle down" to a Bavaria 42. But things as they are, if someone is giving away a 340 or 356, consider me in!

After several bareboat charters aboard one, our dream boat has become a Hylas 49. I'll post a picture of ours immediately following our lottery win! Gary Kunkel Catalina 30 "Folie a Deux" Channel Islands Harbor, CA

best floating condo on the water for $600k. If I won the lottery, it's the first thing I'd buy. Meanwhile, I'd settle for a 3 cabin 450.....

Lost Soul to Lea Scotia

I owned one of Bob Bitchin's boats before the Lost Soul; some of you Lat&Atts afficionado may recall reference to the then named "Predator", a Formosa 51 that we lived aboard for a couple years. It was a "dream boat" in some ways (i.e. fun and "wow" factor), but obviously isn't suited for buoy racing or shorthanded long distance sailing, really. The term "dream boat" does conjure up images of 50+ pilothouse machines, but even with limitless money, ALL boats are a compromise and more suited to certain situations than others. We now have as close to a dream boat as can be expected in my lifetime, a Taswell 43. We eventually plan on taking this boat world cruising... but I gotta say, my Catalina 36 was more fun in the local Lake Union fun-race Duck Dodge! Best, Trevor

thinking too small

with "unlimited" cash........there are two I'd like to own and sail the world in... Nautor Swan 60 (speed/comfort/quality) or a Classic S&S designed Yacht (like the Yawl "Dorade" -which by the way IS for sale) ok maybe 3 boats---The J160. (again, I like speed under sail)

Only two boats and one I already own

I think Rick has great taste and style and I too would love to have the HC50. I even have a small picture of it on my computer. The whole concept of a dedicated cruiser for two (one?) is mind blowing. But my present boat is still one of my favorites. The Hunter 380 (not the 38) in my mind is one of the best overall designed boats I have ever seen and I have enjoyed it for six years now. I wouldn't change a thing. No, I don't want a Swan or HR or Oyster. Even if I had all the money I wanted. Les

Picture of the HC50 at Annapolis the first year they came out, Oct 2000. That's Pettengill standing under the boom hollering at me, something about being starboard. Jim S/V Java

She would .........

......be about 50' and be able to be crewed by 2. Insurance and maintenance would be under $100 per year, would go like hell in 3kts of breeze and handle heavy weather like the QE. Is this too much to ask for??
