I once thought to post a link to a video that showcased resourcefulness in a difficult sailing situation. But it went off the air and I forgot. Now, a few sentences in the post "Sail Care on the Water" earlier this morning by Joe's New Obsession caused me to remember about it.

.... You never seem the guy work on the boats in the movies, just ripping along the waves!
If you do, the boat is 1/2 built, the guy always clamping something down alone, no music, no empty beer cans about, no cursing cuz he cut the piece wrong.
Then fade out and in and POOF! She's all shiney and in the water, ready to sail off to adventure. AND! did you ever notice his hands are never covered in band aides and clean?! ...

Joe you are right except in one case anyway, "the guy" is assisted by the enhancing effects of Viagra (not beer) to cope with a main sheet system shackle that cracks completely apart while out sailing during a massive Beaufort wind scale #2 event.

This add appeared frequently during the network nightly news about one year to six or so months ago. In the video, notice the two boom bales. One is used. The other is ornamental. And the best use for a pfd is to keep it down below just in case the webbing straps are needed for an emergency repair.

Anyone recognize the lake?

There were several inconsistencies pointed out about that commercial, the tow line is visible and the jib is backwinded, for starters.

But everyone knows that real sailors don't need that stuff anyway.

Of course, my wife likes to sail too. So I don't need to get off the lake to, y'know.

I love all the disclaimers in drug ads. If boating required such disclaimers, every boat would have fine print running maybe twice around the hull.
