Things I like.

For anyone who might be considering a boat or a new one here are some things I like about my new 260. 1. The bimini, you can sail with it up and not be so wiped out from a day in the Kansas sun and it is great for having lunch at anchor. My black dog can spend more time in the cocpit as well. 2. Wheel steering, It makes it look like a bigger boat and with the pedistal guard there is a place for a table and drink holder(I use Snap-It), 3. Marine head, just nice to not have to lug the porta pottie up the hill to the dump station, tho' pump out is a problem until we get a better pump out facility, and a head I can close the door and still be in the head, 4. the swim platform/ladder. It is nice to be able to dangle your feet in the water while sailing, 5. the cabin, nice to be able to seat 4 people easily around the table for a meal when the weather is cool or bad. 6. water ballast/center board, we like to beach, i.e. really anchor within walking depth/distance to shore, 7. it sails well tho' you might want to reef earlier than a keeled boat, sails just as fast at 10-20 degrees of heal as 30 degrees, and my wife is happier. 8. rudder/motor connection makes it drive nice, I can back it with the rudder up even if need to to get to a beach, 9. anchor locker, did not have one before, will put roller furling on next to free up space on the fore deck, 10 window over our heads while in the aft berth, nice breeze, even with seat down and great view of the stars with it up. We are having fun and hope all others areas well. Corky MeriCay

Pedestal guard

Corky, Was the pedestal guard an add-on? Mine didn't come with one. If so, where did you get it and how hard would it be to install?

PEDISTAL GUARD

I ordered it with it. Your dealer can get you one or you can order it from Edison. It shouldn't be hard to install. You lose the cup holders that are standard with the pedistal. It has an upper support with a wood top to the pedistal and bolts through the floor. Those nuts might be a reach as I was under there setting up my depth sounder. Certainly a two person job but well worth it. I also have a wheel brake on mine and like it as well. Kinda' a cheap auto pilot for short term use. You can get the wheel brake from your dealer, Edison, or West Marine. I haven't looked but you might get the guard from West Marine. Like I said add a table and 4-holder drink holder and everything is handy. I like the Snap-It table as it has no legs to the deck or back to the pedistal. West Marine carries Snap-It products or you can order from them direct: 972-625-8840 or SnapIt2@aol.com. Have fun Corky

Dave: I would like to hear your discussion regarding the pedestal guard pro/con's.

Pedistal Guard - Pro

We had a pedistal guard installed on our 260 and really love it. We went so far as to have our ST-60 TriData and Wind instruments on the pedistal guard. That way none of the passengers are in the way of the instruments. What are the cons of a pedistal guard? Maybe Dave can shed some light. Jim - Hunter 260 "Spud"

PEDISTAL GUARD

Besides have somethng firm to in the middle of the boat, we use it for the table and drink holder as mentioned. I put my cell phone and handheld GPS in a drink cooler and put them in the drink holder. I hang a tote bag on it and keep the mainsheet tidy nd off the deck. It is nice to hang a camera on as well. It never seems to get in the way as it is not signifcantly wider than the pedistal. I would never go back. Corky
