Thin Gelcoat

The gelcoat below the water is quite thin. The previous Beneteau owner had warranty work done to remove blisters. Beneteau skimmed off a thin layer of the gelcoat to fix the problem and now I have a hull with less gelcoat. There were 8 dime size blisters that I fixed with 3M polyvinyl patch and covered with VC17 antifoul. What should I do next year? Repatch the the new blisters or do a complete epoxycoat? This is a freshwater vessel that spends the winters on a cradle.Comments

Well Paul the good new is

when you decide to do the barrier coat the hull should be dry enough in the Spring after a winter in the cradle. 8 dime-sized blisters a year wouldn't make me rush to strip and barrier coat, especially since you get a good look at your hull after less than 6 months in the water every year. You might want to get a moisture meter eval of the hull within a couple of weeks after you haul out this coming Fall, to see what is going on generally. Scott
