It would be nice if we could block these postings. I wonder how they get through.


Anyway I take my boat out tomorrow. Little earlier this year then "normal".

I hope you all have had a great season.

Planning on not using my roller furling system, but going back to hank-on sails. I have a 155 and 110 hank on.

Yes I'm pulling the boat out today as well (10/7)... about 2 weeks early..
But my weekends are toast for the next 3 weeks, and in fact I am gone for a week in 2. So no time to sail.

my "plan" this morning is to drag the trailer up to the lake, and maybe get in a couple hours sailing the boat, then unrigging, unstepping and trailering home. I'm getting pretty quick with unrigging so I think it's about a 2 hour affair for me now, working at my sloth pace.

Wish me luck as winds don't look great, 6mph-9mph (9 would be good).

About those junk posts, yeah, let's delete/block them.
My capri, after a 64 days sailing season, was hauled out last Wednesday: today I lower the mast. I'm missing it already.

I might be pulling my Capri 22 down to SF Bay for this weekend's Fleet Week, launching at Berkeley Marina and sailing out to Alcatraz Island to be right on the flight line (well at least as the Coast Guard lets you get, but pretty darn close!).

After that, there's one more Turkey Trot race in November and then its Tarp Time for the winter in NorCal foothills.

My last sail of 2015 was yesterday morning... sailed from home port (Ironwood Point) to the bottom of the lake, making great time...
Reef and the jib, and still 6 knots and 40 degree of heel... Oh, picture shows 5.5 knots and 22 degree of heel, cause faster than that or more heel than that I'm not taking pictures, I'm too busy!


Winds lightened up later on my way back up the lake, shook out the reef, and sailed more with the wind (broad reach to reach)...

and


but then, ultimately it all had to end... no pictures derigging the boat or hauling... but it took me a leisurely 2 hours from sliding into dock, until I was on my trailer and coming home.


She's now tucked away in her cave for the winter. The cooler is emptied, the battery is on the winter charger, the porta pottie is removed, and emptied. Now it's on to winter projects to "improve" the boat some more... It was a great sailing season and I hauled about 3 weeks before I had to... but I just won't be at the lake again this year.

My boat came out yesterday and mast taken down. Interesting way. A friend at my yacht club has a CJ jeep with an electric winch on the front. Connect the spinnaker halyard to the winch. Undo the fore-stay, and winch the mast down :) Worked great.

Tomorrow I'll straighten out the "mess" and tow her home.

Our last race is Sunday -- a pursuit PHRF race and a Pina-colata party afterwards. i am sure I will find someones boat to ride/crew on.

I expect Aviator James will continue posting pictures of sailing over the winter with a few pictures of his "deck ornaments" to keep our spirits high for the next 6 months.

Taking the boat out of the water for the season

My boat came out early this year on September 19th after the Great Chase Pursuit Regatta in Hingham Harbor. It was a great day on the water but I was scheduled for carpal tunnel surgery the following Thursday. The surgery went well.

It was so strange taking the boat out while the water and air was so warm. One year, I took the boat out with snow flurries in Boston Harbor. By the time I got back home (an hour drive) there was 4 inches of snow in the driveway.

The last day on the water was very enjoyable. The wind was variable and after a poor first leg, we started to crawl our way to an almost respectable position. Not too bad for being only the third time I got out on the water this year!

Anyway, I decided to order an asymmetrical spinnaker from Catalina Direct. They are offering a discount with 50% down and 50% when they ship it sometime in March. I ordered the snuffer sleeve to go with it.
