I have been chaseing a temp. problem for a while on a new to me Cat. 27 with a 5411 Diesel. No, not running hot but running cold less than 100 degrees. I took the thermostat houseing off and found that the thermostate was stuck closed. In my opinion it should have been running hot not cold. I need some help on this one. I put a new thermostate in and now the engine runs at about one fifty ideling and goes down to 140 when I bring the RPM up, sounds about correct according to the operation manual that I have. The problem that I have, or don't have? is that there was more water "burping" out the exhaust pipe when the engine was running cold than there is now that it seems to be operateing correctly. Could I have installed the thermostate upside down? and also what size hoses should be in the system. Thanks "MIC"
