Some day I'll save this recipe to my harddrive...but for now I'll just have to upload it onto my laptop from the kitchen while I make it: THE WORLD'S BEST FRUITCAKE Ingredients: 1 cup butter 1 tsp salt 1 cup sugar 1 tblsp lemon juice 4 large eggs 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup dried fruit 1 cup chopped nuts 1 tsp baking soda 2 quarts bourbon whiskey Pour 1 cup bourbon into a glass to check for color and clarity. Drink it to check for taste. Feel free to double check with another cup. Assemble the rest of the ingredients. Taste test 1 cup of bourbon from the second quart. In a large fluffy bowl, whip butter with electric mixr. Add 1 tsp thugar and beat again. Make churtain bourbon is top quality by taste testing another cu'fullllll. Add 2 arge leggggs and 2 cups dried fruit to bowl and beat till high. (If fruit gets stuck in beaters, jus' poke it out with a screwdriver). Sample bourbon again to check for toxi...toxi..toxicicicicicty. Then sift 3 cups of salt-- or anything...who cares? Only thing a frucak's good for is a doorstop anway... Add one pint lemon juice. Add chupped butter, strained nuts, 1 babblespoon of brown sugar (or whatever color's handy) and the resh of the 'gredients to bowl and turn on mixer. Ooooh...what an inres'ng pattern on my kitchen ceiling. Toast it with 'nother cup of bourbon! Grease oven and heat cake pan to 3500...put the whole mess into a pot, and ut it in the oven. Drink another cup of bourbon...and...hoooohhhh boy...I tink I bettr jus' bo to ged now... Happy Holidays (hic)!

Day off?

Some folks have all the luck. When I get out of here I'm going home to test the bourbon, heck with the rest of it. Merry Christmas Peggy. Oh, and tomorrow I get to work some more on the holding tank. And 40 is the predicted high. :)

I thought it was the same one.

Peggy, I have been told that there is only one fruit cake and that it has been passed from family to family for years. I know now that you are mass producing them and creating a over abundance of fruit cakes, and a lack of bourbon! Merry Christmas Peggy, I enjoy your informative posts. r.w.landau p.s. can you flush a whole fruit cake through a Raritan or do you need a macerator?

You definitely need a macerator--a very GOOD one!

OTOH, why would you try to flush it? Seems to me that a fruitcake should be able to anchor any mooring! :)
