This season is my third now with 222-O. Since I haven't owned a sailboat in the last fifty years it is nice to get back to the peace and quiet again.. Thinking that The six gallon fuel tank that came with the New to me O'day is what I would need. I changed it out to a three gallon tank because I have not bee able to use all six gallon in one season. At the end of this month I'll need to freshen up the fuel and may only have to add one and a half gallons to the tank. Haven't noticed the difference in total boats in my Marina this year, but have noticed less usage.. Charter fishing seems the same. But have seen a few new sailboats around and definitely more blow boats on the water. I sold my power boat only because I've retired and can now spend more quality time on the water. The Wed night racing is the best fun. However I had thought about getting back to sailing long before I retired. The power boat was so easy to make ready and put away and it filled my needs while I was working. (Turn the key and go ). All being said the economy is pretty nice too. I never would have believed that a 5 HP, one cylinder 4-stroke motor could be so stingy on gas.

Lake Erie

We used to live on lake Erie and had power boats all my life. Seven years ago I moved to N.C. with my second wife and all ours kids, sold the ski boat and just a year ago started sailing and we love it everyone does. But we sail ALL YEAR here, I do not miss all the ice and winter etc. My 6 hp 4 stroke seems not use any gas either. Alan

Missing Lake Erie

This is my first summer since 1999 that Ladylove has not been docked at Harbor North in Huron. And I really miss the runs along shore past Cedar Point and out to the islands. Especially the warm days with a good 20 knot offshore breeze which we had for a week until a couple of days ago. Alas the boat is in North Carolina on its way south to the Tampa area with a stop or two in the islands. But it has to sit through hurricane season and it is a $200. roundtrip to go sail on Pamlico Sound. And don't believe those stories about sailing year 'round. I have been to my boat three times since Christmas and had one day of sailing weather. Sure the boat is always in the water but that doesn't mean everybody is sailing. On the plus side I have a centerboarder close to home and get to sail with some great people on Atwood Lake. So all is not lost. But no long runs without a tack at 7+ knots. :( Ladylove is about the fifth big mast from the left on the outside dock in the link below.

maybe more hardcore

3 times since X-mas ? Well :) maybe for you but our water doesn't get hard :) I can remember putting my boats up for the long winter and getting the motors ready for the long sit but we sail every day we have wind 12 months a year :) I lived in NY for 36 years and I would never go back sorry :) The outer banks are fun to sail also as well as pamlico and the nues river. Happy sailing where ever you are. Alan

Cedar Point last weekend

Hi Chuck, I anchored off the beach at Cedar Point this past weekend. The wind was pretty good Sunday. The guy at the gas dock laughs when I pull in to get $5 worth of gas. JerryA

Lake or Bay

Jerry, when you said the beach I assumed you meant the Lake Erie side of the point. Is that right? Did you spend the night out there or just a short while?

John, Yup, Lake Erie side. Didn't spend the night on the hook. I just found myself over there Saturday and Sunday both. Made my lunch on the boat. Did you get out and sail over the weekend? There seem to be fewer powerboats. Sunday I was awakened by the CG chopper serching for that boat collision victim. JerryA

Long, sad story

Let me just say I launched on 4/17 and have yet to sail. Just told 2 days ago that the motor was repaired. Have to work this weekend. Maybe sail next week.
