T.S. Elliot wrote,
"April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers."
While I agree having lived inland in New England most of my life, I don't think he was on the coast at the time he wrote this. We still can get big snowfalls but they don't last.
Today's storm has been upgraded to a Blizzard warning on the West coast of Penobscot Bay. We could see 2 feet of snow before it's done later, tomorrow. But I doubt it. And it will soon be gone. The coast is warmer than inland and late snow melts fast.
I don't know who wrote this simple adage about weather on the Maine coast, but it's surprisingly accurate; and goes.
" Ten degrees warmer in the winter, ten degrees cooler in the summer".
This photo was taken after the last Nor'easter came through(late last week?). This is an old house I restored (for a client), across the street from our old house. That snow is almost gone, ready for today's, fresh blizzard.
I should take the wreath down, but I like how it looks covered in fresh snow.
