Anyway, it's going to be 3 degrees f in Annapolis this coming tuesday early morning. Someone made a profound statement in another post ealier, stating that "We (Annapolis mariners) may be just one hard winter away from heartache". I think most of us winterize, but to what level? We are not Green Bay vets or Maine salts. I have noted boats in my harbor that may be owned by newbies, and I worry for their boyancy, and machinery and plumbing integrity.

Skipper if you have a deck stepped mast you'll want to make sure the weep hole at the bottom of the mast is clear. Nothing worse than freezing water at the bottom of the mast cracking it. No weep hole? Drill one.

My boat is about 10 miles north of Annapolis and I fully winterize everything. Drain systems where possible, add pink stuff, closed thru hulls, full boat cover, etc. The warning about weep holes in a deck stepped mast is a good one. I will check mine tomorrow.

It looks like they moved it up to 10 degrees. I guess we can stop worrying.

I've winterized too, and with extra advise from this board. I still worry, and more so for those who may not have had the insight, or expert advise from others. MainSail has advised on the pink stuff in other posts, as well as other considerations. We will be having record cold on Tues, the likes of which some in the mid Atlantic may be unfamiliar with regarding winterizing boats.

I see pictures all the time in the Boat Us mag, of sunk boats with masts sticking up.
