Hi y’all,

After leaving Maine in September we have been beating into storms every week and this one is no exception. Blowing 25 kts for the last 3 hours we’re secure to a dock and just rocking with the wind since this marina is well protected. I got to see the pictures today of hurricane Florence and water to the tops of pilings here at Dowry Creek. These folks have earned their merit badge. We expect another gale to come through in two days and then maybe some calming down. Lot of boaters feeling a bit down so I spend some time making sure they don’t lose the dream. I’m sure they will all make it fine.

Are you traveling down the ICW comfortably with your draft and clearance?
A trip I hope to make in the notso far off future.....

Yes, the water has been higher this year so clearing the fixed bridges is a concern. We got under the Wilkerson at 64 feet then the water dropped 6 inches the next day. Last nights storm brought it back up judging from the water here in the marina.

Good for the keel tight for the top... I have joined a group on Facebook that is all about traveling the ICW with up to date routes with depths. “ICW cruising guide by bob 423”. Pretty good information. Enjoy!

A friend just left Greenport yesterday am sailing in the ocean for Virginia. Yesterday was 15 + from the NW. He probably did OK. It's going to be cold and wet for a while for them. There's snow as far south as Texas so fair weather doesn't seem likely.

It might be time to consider waiting for a weather window, head out to Bermuda and then slip south to the Caribbean, rather than waiting out blows in marinas or worrying about bridge clearances.
Of course, unless you are very lucky, you'll take a pasting for a few hours or so on your way to Bermuda, but I assure you your boat will do just fine in anything you might experience on that 650-mile run (5 days or less). After that, it's a sleigh ride to St. Thomas or the BVI; a really great beam reach.
At that point, there are so many islands and beautiful anchorages in the Eastern Caribbean, you'll be hard pressed to have a poor day of sailing.
Just a thought.
