Getting rid of the smell

We had an obnoxious smell (like something died) on our boat once and one of the charter boat captains suggested it was probably the bilge. On his recommendation, we poured in a small amount of biodegradable dishwashing liquid. Then we took the freshwater hose to it, using the nozzle to give it a nice sudsy bath and let the bilge pump take it out. By the time we rinsed enough for all the suds to be gone, the smell was gone too! Can't hurt to give it a try.

Suggest you read two articles in the Head Mistress

forum Reference Library (on the forum home page): "Boat Odor Isn't All in Your Head," and "Head Related Boat Odors and Cures." They explain to how find the sources of odors, and how to get rid of 'em.

smell

I had a odor problem on mine... it was from the bilge... i used simple green and water to wash the bilge out then used good old baking soda afterwards... 3 boxes mixed with a few gallons of clean water and let it sit for a day then flushed it out... poof smell was gone... now i used baking soda once a month to keep it that way seems to work
