Bad idea... you'll probably cause yourself to have a heart attack by doing that... better to not know. :)
This is a dangerous discussion. I have a firm policy to put off tallying all costs until the day I finally get smart and sell the boat. Knowing that will be a sad day, I will take comfort in counting up all the money I won't be spending anymore.

I have to agree with Don but there is no doubt I am doing my part after all it is a boat! LOL

Mike B -

I am using a Singer CG 500. It is labeled as a commercial grade sewing machine. Singer had an event at a local hotel where they were blowing these out for $200!!! I watched the Singer rep sew through a very thick leather belt so I figured it would handle anything I throw at it. The bimini I'm making has 8 layers at certain seams and i've had no trouble sewing through that. I also use it to patch my sails.

I am about to install a single line reefing system, and the Mercury 9.9 has to go in for warranty work. I have been thinking of adding the battery charging module to the motor too.

I have finally put a furler / reefer on my shopping list, was gonna pull the trigger when the tax return came. But my son is now 17, and I lost my child credit for him. It's amazing what a $1000 tax credit does for your tax bill. It's the difference between and small refund and a big payment.

I am still investigating LED navigation lights. I think that this would be a fantastic upgrade for Lola.

Re: Doing my share

Bought a new (to me) boat in October. Since then, I have spent over $1000 on teak cleaner/oil, bottom paint, tools, solar panel, wiring, new mast head light, etc. Still have a couple hundred to spend before we cast off.

I make wine, but I have been tempted to make some homebrew after having some from some freinds that make some all grain brew. That is awesome stuff! I have all the equipment for it from wine making except the uber big stainless steel dutch oven. Speaking of which, I need to get my 7 gallon glass carboy filled with some white wine for this summer's cruise!

Re: Mike B -

Manny, thanks that's what we're looking for, sturdy at a reasonable cost. I'll do a search on the model and share it with my wife.

The Carboy is where I do the secondary. After it is complete and I rack the wine, I bottle it.

On average you must earn 16 dollars to be able to spend 10. What you don't spend you don't have to earn. Use it up, wear it out, repair it, make do, or do without.
I bought turkey in November for 25 cents per pound , today I canned five jars with a half pound of meat per jar and the canning lids at 15 cents cost more than the meat.

I was going to put it in my fuel locker. I have in the last few days run into a 12 gallon Attwood fuel tank that fits in that locker like a glove. I will move to plan B. The PO had installed four tie down strap holders - two on the inside of the transom and two on the floor of the cockpit near the transom to hold a large fuel tank. I will build a glass over plywood shell to sit over the generator so it sits under the rudder handle. It is somewhat useless space anyway. It will also allow me to run a exhaust hose from the 2000 through the self bailing drain down to the water line so I do not have to worry about fumes making their way into the galley.

I also have been seriously considering moving the air conditioner from the companionway door mount to a front hatch mount to avoid any chance of the air conditioner pulling in fumes. Much like modification that Seth Dixon did on his O'Day 25.

I really like that he did not make any part of it permanent.

Receess' Honda

I just made the order a few days ago, that price is total with shipping. A friend at a brewing forum turned us on to http://www.wisesales.com/ In Schaumburg, Illinois. They have an online store but I called in the purchase. My friend paid the same $884 about two months ago.
I'm on the brink of calling. Did you get your unit yet? The Companion with the 30-amp socket?

I got my unit a couple of days ago. I did not get the companion. In order to get the 30 amp locking socket you are giving up the DC outlet. I want the generator to directly charge the batteries everytime I run it. I went with the standard eu2000i. They are really quiet under load when you are comparing them to any other unit. My wife was really impressed. Easy to start and from what I have heard from people that have owned them for a few years, they stay that way. I know a person that loaned his to a friend and it came back hard starting and sluggish to load changes. He found his friend had used gas that had water and had fouled his carb. He found a bolt on carb for the price of having his carb rebuilt. He said it was really easy to swap them out and it has been running like a champ ever since. They are supposed to be bullet proof.

I think to make full use of that companion units 30 amp breaker you must have two units running together?

I ordered at the $885 price for the 20/20/12 volt unit. 5 days delivery. I asked her why the different units didn't have different designations, but of course she didn't know. I figured I can always have a 20/30 adapter to get the gen to my boat's 30 amp input. It occurred to me the gen 30 to the boat's 30 would allow me to run the on-board battery charger, but there is always the efficiency loss of the charger. Also, the 12 volt I can use at the car's battery also. So, I got the 12-volt/20 amp model. Thanks for your advice
