[Bad Obsession]

I was working on my fresh water system on my boat today. I was attempting to add an accumulator tank. I have to add a piece of wood attached to the hull to attach the accumulator tank.

I decided to take the hose off the water pump. I have to take it off eventually anyways. When I was trying to remove it I broke the fitting that attached to the water pump.

After looking at it for a few seconds I figured that it was no big deal. I called Jabsco to try to order a replacement part. No luck there. They told me to call West Marine.

I called West Marine, the first time, and they told me to call Jabsco. The lady then attempted to transfer me to something and I was hung up on.

I called Jabsco again and told them what West Marine Said. They said they had no idea what the part is and that West Marine should have it.

Finally, I called West Marine back and they guy was able to find the part when I gave him the part number. I was finally able to order one. The part cost $6.99. Shipping cost me $9.99. This is nuts, now I pay more in shipping then I do for the part.

The Marine Industry never fails to let you down, they always give you the run around and they stick it to you any which way that they can. I prefer dealing with Defender than West Marine but the gift certificates that I had were to West.

As far as online guys go, my best experience was with hamiltonmarine.com.
Great people working there that treat you like they knew I was going to come on here and praise them or slam them. Really though they just seem like good people.
discountmarinesupplies.com was the cheapest prices and shipping I have seen for marine parts, however I will never order from them again. You can't talk to them on the phone, as per their policy, and I ordered something and tried to change it before it shipped and they completely ignored all of my email requests and then my stuff arrived 10 days late. Also their packing looked like they didn't care what happened to the parts, and the bronze had dings all over. Hamilton's packing looked like they were shipping eggs. For the record I haven't ordered from SBO yet. They didn't carry these particular parts.
I'd like to add that I have learned more on SBO about sailboats than anywhere else and would like to return the favor, when I need something that they carry.

Hey Hermit...You will appreciate this one. I was working near the water pump today and I was in the area near where the counter drops down near the oven. I had to go in through the seat and work back that way. UGH.....Just wish that there was better access in that area!

I thought you were a big guy, how did you fit in there? I'm only 5'3" 140lbs. I was running cables from my engine to nav station and had to crawl through the back up to the nav station cir de sole style. I was a little claustraphobic.

What type and size of accumulator are you adding? I bought a 20 gal. from lowes for $19 on sale, but it's so big if I want to install it I have to strap it to the deck.

Mine is 1 liter. It is all you need for the boat. It will work just right as the pressure system in the boat is lower in pressure. I wouldn't want a 20 gallon tank. One gallon would be fine but 5 would be a bit much too.

I am a big guy. I was reaching around everything and had my head crammed in there to see. It was such a wonderful job.

I have a water filter system for my fresh water system that filters the water before it gets to the water pump. Problem is I can't find a replacement filter for it anywhere. This sucks. I will just rinse out the filter for now because I am being cheap due to my employment situation.

I have the same problem with mine. I cracked that fitting and haven't figured out where to buy one. What was the part #. I think our boats are the same. I rinsed my filter out too. It's awful small. I thought I could buy a small water filter from lowes but not sure how I'd plumb it. Does your filter have that same fitting on it?

Installing a house-hold water filter is a piece of cake if you use the flexible connection hoses that you'll find in the Lowes plumbing section for making up connections to sinks, stainless covered and in various lengths. Here's what it looks like in my H34...

Not to turn this into a filter discussion but be careful where you locate it if you have a shore water connection as placing a filter on the pump output will not work there. Also,there are lots of different filter elements, many of which will only remove some taste and particulates.

I don't have a shore water connection. I am using the boat all by me onesies and I just fill the tanks as needed. No biggie. It would be an easy time to add the shore water hookup but I doubt that I will do it, no reason to do that.

I just bought a Ronco water tank from Dave at SBO, and even though I screwed up the part number, Dave made calls and steered me to the right pew.
[As in: right church, wrong pew].
With the sale on tanks, the price was great.

As to West, I found that the S. Daytona and Altamonte Springs store personnel will jump through hoops to help me solve parts issues on a 30 yr. old Hunter.

Oh, BTW, I see a number of you referring to a 'hook-up' to shore water.
I had thought about doing that until it dawned on me that the fresh water tank is vented and the city water would only run out once the tank is full.
So, how do you hook up city water?
