The Roar of Engines...

Got out for a day-long sail on Saturday, the best day of the Memorial Day weekend weather-wise.

I saw a dozen other sailboats, the most I have seen in two years. A beautiful sight.

But my word, the power boats! Wall to wall. I enjoy tubing and jet-skiing and going fast too, on occasion, and they have as much right to enjoy the lake as I do. But there were enough obnoxiously loud speedboats roaring around to utterly destroy any peace and quiet ... not that I was expecting much. And the stereos blasting hip-hop with profane lyrics are just rude. I wish the lake patrol would have busted a few of them for drunkenness or lack of PFDs or something.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the day as always. "A bad day sailing beats a good day doing anything else." Just wanted to get a little cranky old man rant off my chest. I mean, a day at the lake should not sound like a day at a Nascar event.

You just need a larger body of water so they can thin out a bit.
Actually I do feel your pain. I don't think I'd try to sail the smallish lake near our house.
Then again we're 20 minutes from the salt water (Puget Sound.)

Last year, Memorial Day weekend was a zoo on Seneca. This year, we sailed and motored Saturday and Sunday. The lake was pretty empty. We left Sunday evening due to rainy weather and some visiting relatives, so I don't know if the lake was crowded today.

Pretty day, no boats in sight!

"The roar of the engines". Oh, I thought you were going to write about watching the Indy 500 on a large screen TV powered by an inverter while underway.

Work and the weather conspired to force me out on Saturday if I was going to get any sailing in at all.
I work a crazy schedule, which often allows me to get out on weekdays when it's beautifully quiet. So I really have little cause to complain (but that never stopped me).
