What did I do to my Mac today??? ... I sold it. I recently committed to purchasing a Hunter 26 and put my Mac/Ven 25 up for sale. I received a surprising number of inquiries in a short period of time and sold the boat within 5 days, in the middle of winter! I'm looking forward to the ice melting off the river so I can test out my "new" H26.

I must say that following both the Macgregor and Hunter forums for a while, this one seems most active. I want to take the opportunity to thank you all for the invaluable information that I gained from you over the 8 years of Mac ownership.

Nothing wrong with that, Fred; congrats! Good news about your sale, I hope that holds true when I list my Mac 22 in a couple of weeks.

Hey Fred is that the H26 with the partial water ballast and swing keel? There are 3 of those at our club. Nice boat. Enjoy.

Yes this is a 1995 boat that is water ballasted and has a swing keel. The main driver for the change was to have a more modern boat with bigger cabin and improved creature comforts. We plan on taking her to the North Channel this summer.

Fred:
I couldn't believe your post when I read it. I have a 1986 25 and have been looking to upgrade to a bigger boat. I went to Strictly Sail here in Cincinnati a couple of weeks ago with my son - in law to check out an X and an M they had in stock. After seeing both of those boats we climbed aboard a Hunter 26 he had.... wow! This is what the Admiral and I have been looking for!
We plan to sail the north channel in a couple of years.
How much did you get for your 25? And what market area are you in? Ours is very clean with a few upgrades (solar panels, extended V berth, depth finder, stereo etc.) I need a good idea to list it.
Congratulations on the new boat!

New outboard mounting plate, maple.

The old plywood one was gettin' sketchy.

Thanks!

Cut the general outline on a bandsaw, then used a large roundover bit on a router table.

I have my xlshaft outboard on a transom riser (2.5 inch up, about 2 inch back) so that the outboard can full rotate. I really like this setup but earlier in this thread, while sailing in some fairly high winds, I had the outboard jibe in the well and it busted off the shift lever. So now I have a quick method to hold the outboard over to one side while sailing.. hopefully I get to test it out this afternoon.

Ive lightened up the back of the boat a lot, one picture shows how the aft end of the boat sits in the water.

Picked up the 22' from storage. The next month's payment was due, and I plan on getting her ready to sell over the next couple of weeks. She's a pretty little boat; I'll definitely miss her.

Finally found some time to start installing all the Christmas goodies. VHF installation finished, but need to install the antenna. Lawrance GPS wiring almost completed. Adhered a block of PVC for the depth sounder so as not to screw into boat fiberglass. After that need to install the Windex. Anyone lowered the mast with boom and mainsail attached?

yes. at anchor with a very strong and lightening-heavy storm approaching i decided to drop the mast. figured the goose neck would let the boom swing parallel to the mast as it came down... wound up riveting it back on in the morning.

Topping lift. The only purpose of this is to hold up the end of the boom when I reef the main. I still use a pig tail off the back stay when the main is rolled up. Its just a line with a quick connect at the top and a quick connect at the bottom with a way to adjust the length. Normally I dont mess with the length

Im marina living in this boat now and the pop top with a cover is nice. I made this cover from an old boat cover. Takes about 5 minutes to put on or take off and its nice to not have the cover up when sailing (plus this allows the vang to be hooked up). This morning I also found a spot for the Ipad. I now have three GPS reveivers in the boat.. and pretty much dont need any since Im getting to know this lake (Havasu) well.

Not much wind.. but today is supposed to be 85F..

Boat in Hove to in light wind (first picture)
