The "new" Active Captain... (?)

So I migrated my old Active Captain account to the new Garmin Active Captain.
Anyone here using it on their laptop? I either cannot figure out how to access the features or many of the features no longer work unless you have it synced to a chart plotter. I have been trying to figure out how to measure distances for legs of a trip. Active used to let you drop way points right on the laptop computer screen. That feature seems to be missing.

Anyone got some insights to share? So far, I miss the old active captain and I am inclined to rely on my Navonics App on my phone for my day dreaming and trip planning.

I figured it wouldn’t take Garmin more than a year to eff up Active Captain.

Yeah, A C is done. I have 3 different apps and none of them support it any more. Garmin apps will but I'm not buying another one and all the features of the web version, distances, saved routes, etc. are all gone. I'm done with them. Used to like using and contributing. It will be of less use to any one now that the user and contributor base are bleeding away.

From a previous thread in July, AC only works with Garmin chartplotters and a few others they support.

Yeah I recently sent Garmin a nastogram. I’ve used various products over the years that have now been gobbled up by Garmin. In my personal experience, I don’t think any of them have made it any better. My inReach and AC are the most recent. It is even more frustrating that almost none of the Garmin devices communicate with each other. I mean come on dude...

I use Coastal Explorer by Rosepoint.com.
Love it. Easy to establish a route. Tide and current data on the charts.
Complete AC data for places within the displayed chart. Uses NOAA charts and Canadian Hydrographic charts. It is PC windows based software.

If you can't figure it out maybe consider downloading free OpenCPN and free NOAA charts. Love the program for planning a trip and for use on the trip. Easy to drop waypoints and get leg and trip distances like what you have been use to,

Catalina 270 255 Wabamun. Welcome to the marina
Just remember how many people said "good riddance" to paper charts. My ring bound Gulf Island chart deck rolls up nicely, goes in a nice plastic tube, doesn't need "firmware" and has no integration to the rusty sextant that will be the nav gear on the next boat.

If you have Navionics and Raymarine, they have really improved their integration. I’ve stopped using my PC software and substituted Navionics Autoroutes which I then adjust on my iPad or iPhone and sync with my chartplotter. It was surprisingly easy and I was able to plan a route onboard easily.

Recently heard from a fellow sailor, that if you submit enough reports to AC you might be rewarded with some AC bling. This may have happened in pre-Garmin days. Not sure if the practice is being continued.

Don’t know about ac, but I have a few things that sync with blue chart mobile. It was real glitchy a few months ago so I deleted it thinking I would just reinstall it. Yeah, you can guess how that turned out... even though they don’t support it anymore doesn’t mean they should totally discontinue any means of running it.

So what I'm hearing is the old functionality of being able to plan a trip with way points on a lap top is no longer an option with AC. Correct?

Dunno, I have to do it all on my phone. Don’t know if it is my incompetence or AC but I can’t get the maps loaded on any other device.

I don't have my own app available yet but if you sailors on the west coast turn east you should run in to something hard. How's that for planning, maybe I'll call it Captain Routes And Planning.
