Iam going to puchase a New 38 or a 41. Can anyone advise me on the pros and cons of each? Also, with only 3 dealers in Canada , how does one get the best price?

I have no information on either boat. Have you cnsidered looking in Buffalo, NY? I have purchased 2 boats from RCR, Yachts. Broker named Mark Kirby. 716-856-6314. Might be worth a call but he is out of town until Thursday. Chuck Dickhut S/V Kililani h31

As I understand it, RCR can't sell new boats to Canadians and Canadian dealers like Angus can't sell new boats to people in the US. Used boats are another story. The only bargaining room with so few dealers would seem to be considering a used boat from the US vs. a new boat from a Canadian dealer. If Angus thought that you might buy a used boat in the US instead of a new one from them, they might be more willing to deal on the new one. Re the question of the 38 vs. 41 - without knowing what is important to you in a boat, it would be impossible to suggest the pros or cons of each.

Go bigger

We originally started out looking at a 340. It was too small, not enough displacement. Then, it was to the 380. It only had one head. We settled on the 410 which had everything we were looking for. Believe me, go the biggest you can afford. They are more stable with the increased displacement, have larger engines, more tankage and simply more comfortable. I saw the 36, 38, 41 and 44 at the Long Beach, CA boat show last week. They are all very nice, but the 44 had it hands down over the others. This new crop of boats all have the large cavernous locker along the port side of the cockpit. It is super. But, the tradeoff is to make the aft cabin much smaller and more cramped. The design also eliminated the 360 degree access to the motor as found on the earlier models. Both of these issues would cause me to want the largest boat I could afford. The new designs have really improved the heads with shower doors. The galleys are more functional with additional storage and better counter fiddles. One of the best things Hunter has done is to move the water manifold up under the galley sink for easier access. Another thing done was to put the two headsail winches back by the wheel for easier single handed use. I really wish I had those on our boat. John Richard s/v Jack's Place

New H41

David We have just this year purchased a new H41 from AYOT. To get the best deal you have to be prepared to negotiate, Knowing where you can get a good used in the U.S. or Canada would give you edge. No-one likes to lose a sale. We traded a 376 ("INNOVATOR") I believe still for sale at Angus, we had her since new. I can talk a little more in detail with you if you e-mail me direct re dealing with Angus. Where are you located ? Tony Wilcox monicatonywilcox@hotmail.com
